TURKEY MIGRATION AND INTERNALLY DISPLACED POPULATION SURVEY

(TMIDPS)

4 MARCH 2005 WORKSHOP

The Workshop on Turkey Migration and Internally Displaced Population Survey (TMIDPS) was made by Hacettepe University Institute of Population Studies (HUIPS) in 4 March 2005. Representatives from Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Planning Organization, State Institute of Statistics, Southeast Anatolian Project Regional Development Administration, UNHCR, UNDP, European Commission, academicians and students from various universities, Human Rights Watch, and other non-governmental organizations like Accessible Life Association, Göç-Der, Akdeniz Göç-Der, and TMMOB and Diyarbakır Bar Association participated in the workshop.

Opening speeches of the workshop were made by Prof. Dr. Sabahat Tezcan (Director of HUIPS), Sedat Çetik (SPO Head of Department) and Prof.Dr. Tunçalp Özgen (President of HU).

After the speeches, Assoc.Prof. Turgay Ünalan (Academician in HUIPS) was made two presentations about the TMIDPS: “Internally Displaced Persons : Concepts and the Situation in the World” and “Internal Migration Movements in the Last Two Decades in Turkey and the Magnitude of Internally Displaced Population”. Then, Res. Ass. İlknur Alyanak presented qualitative study plan, Assoc.Prof. İsmet Koç presented methodology and Dr. A. Sinan Türkyılmaz presented questionnaire design of the project.
